Topic

More than 1.7 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with sepsis annually, and 1.4 million of those patients become sepsis survivors every year. Sepsis survivorship brings with it a host of unique complications: many survivors experience a shortened life expectancy, a higher likelihood of cognitive, physical, and emotional aftereffects, and an overall impacted quality of life. The recently-updated Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) Adult Sepsis Guidelines include, for the first time, long-term recommendations for the care of sepsis and septic shock survivors. During this presentation hosted by Sepsis Alliance, Drs. Evans and Simpson, two of the authors of the guidelines, will highlight and review the current recommendations and changes from previous iterations – including the new emphasis on long-term care of sepsis survivors, as well as other changes to the screening and treatment of sepsis and septic shock in adults.
