    Protecting your APRN Licensure from Legal Action: Avoiding Liabilities and Legal Pitfalls

    This session will include information on the Minnesota rules and statutes that regulate nursing licensure and discipline; the basic anatomy of a Minnesota Board of Nursing investigation and potential outcomes; the best practices for APRN interactions with the Board of Nursing; common liability exposures for APRNs and ways to avoid them; the collateral consequences of criminal charges for APRN licensure and practice; support programs for impaired nurses in Minnesota and best practices on self-disclosure/participation; and a discussion of case studies involving APRN liability risks, issues and pitfalls.

    Stigmatizing Language in Healthcare Documentation

    In this session we will explore how stigmatizing language is embedded in our healthcare system and in healthcare documentation. We will review current literature to learn who is affected by stigma and bias within health records, and discuss the direct and indirect harms resulting from negative descriptors and bias. This session will provide the opportunity to interactive with colleagues to practice identifying stigmatizing language and also practice using neutral language in documentation.
