2023 Spring Pharmacology Webinar

IMPORTANT NOTE: This LIVE VIRTUAL STREAM 

Attendees choosing the virtual option MUST ATTEND on conference day. Sessions will NOT be recorded.  

Do you need pharmacology CE?  Don't want to drive to a conference?

This all- day webinar will feature 6 sessions for a total of 7 Pharm CEs.  

This conference is designed to enhance the attendee's ability to prescribe and monitor patients on pharmacologic therapy.  Information on dosing, interactions and other pharmacokinetics will be included.

Speakers have specific expertise on their topic and each presentation will incorporate evidence-based information and updated guidelines.  Teaching methods will include lecture, case studies and discussion.   

This program has been designed to meet the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) requirements for pharm credit, which is accepted by most APRN certifying bodies, including the American College of Midwives. The application is pending.

Participants will earn 7.5 contact hours (7.0 pharm)

Handouts for the presentations will be made available for download approximately 1 week prior to the conference. Participants will receive an email with instructions on how to access the handouts.  Virtual attendees will receive an email with instructions on how to log on to the stream.

Cancellation Policy - The registration fee, less a $15 administrative charge, is refundable only if the cancellation request is received no later than 5 business days in advance of the conference date. The last day to request cancellation is April 16th.  

Requests for cancellation must be requested in writing via email at admin@mnaprnc.org

    The Drug Disease Connection: The Unintended Consequences of Drug Therapy on Underlying Comorbidities

    We prescribe medications with the intent of treating a targeted condition, but sometimes the drugs prescribed inadvertently affect other comorbidities. In this presentation, we will review some of the unintended impact of common drug therapies on comorbidities.

    X-ing the Waiver; what APRNs should understand about buprenorphine

    With the recent removal of the federally required "X-waiver" to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder, this session educates providers on the pharmacology of buprenorphine and considerations of its use. Session will include pharmacology aspects of buprenorphine as well as other similar medications for opioid use disorder and how these medications interact with acute analgesia needs. It will also discuss considerations for initiating and maintaining buprenorphine prescribing practices.

    What’s New in the Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder: An Update on Antidepressants

    This presentation will provide a brief overview of depression and current standards of pharmacologic treatment, followed by a focus on new medications approved for major depressive disorder over the past decade. The unique pharmacologic features of each medication will be discussed, including side effect profile, significant drug interactions, clinical pearls, and place in therapy.

    Newer Diabetes Medications – How and When to Use Them

    In this session we will review the modern diabetes medication classes with emphasis on the GLP-1, SGLT-2, and new GLP-1/GIP classes. We will review the classes with respect to mechanism, place in therapy, as well as side effects and monitoring. We will also discuss the utility of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) in treating diabetes and determining appropriate therapy with a specific emphasis on adjusting insulin doses. Because cost of medications and glucose monitors is of particular concern to patients, we will also be reviewing crucial cost saving tips for each medication class as well as for CGMs

    Understanding Common Supplements

    Supplements are compounds, chemicals, and drugs that have a mechanism of action, indications, and side effects that are as important to consider as with any prescription medications. This presentation will give an overview of common supplements that patients may be taking and provide the information so the APRN can confidently answer questions from patients about common supplements.
