Position Description


Guided by a philosophy of holistic wellness, Counseling & Health Services (C&HS) is an integrated medical and mental health clinic that provides services to Hamline’s undergraduate and graduate students.  The practice focuses on primary care for illness and injury, well visits, reproductive/sexual health, and mental health concerns.  Services are funded by student fees with minimal 3rd-party billing.  The Director of Health Services position includes a variety of responsibilities including: direct clinical service, wellness promotion, administrative oversight, supervision, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and engagement with the university community through committees and outreach programs. 


  • Oversee the daily operations of the campus health center
  • Provide high-quality direct patient care
  • Exercise independent judgement, including occasional assessment of urgent medical needs
  • Assess and prescribe medications for common mental health concerns (e.g. depression, anxiety)
  • Display a high level of multicultural competence in service delivery
  • Follow current best practices in medicine and oversee consistent implementation
  • Provide leadership for the Health Services staff 
  • Hire, train, and promote the ongoing professional development of the Health Services staff
  • Develop and implement protocols for clinic flow and optimal patient care
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, CLIA)
  • Articulate a model of holistic wellbeing and engage campus stakeholders in this enterprise
  • Demonstrate strong public speaking and presentation skills for health promotion
  • Implement, update, and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention programs
  • Manage a budget and maximize cost effectiveness of services
  • Maintain confidentiality of all protected student health information
  • Additional duties as needed


  • Clinical credentials as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Candidates must possess a master’s degree (or higher) in their field from an accredited university 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of full-time post-degree professional experience is required


  • Work in a leadership or supervisory role (strongly preferred)
  • Experience/credentials in Public Health or related fields (strongly preferred)
  • Prior college health clinic experience (strongly preferred)


  • NP candidates must possess Family/ Adult certification through ANCC or equivalent certifying body
  • PA candidates must possess NCCPA certification & license with the MN Board of Medical Practice
  • Current DEA license (including schedule II-V controlled substances)
  • BLS certification


  • This is a full-time exempt position (0.92 FTE) from August 1 through May 31, and part-time during the months of June and July
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required

  • With approval from the immediate supervisor, this position is eligible for flexible/hybrid remote work, particularly during periods when students are typically not on campus
