Director of Health Services
St Olaf College
Reports To: Dean of Students
Classification: Exempt FTE: 0.80 No RVU benchmark
Essential Job Duties:
Lead, develop and implement strategy for St. Olaf College’s Health Services
- Advise the Dean of Students on matters pertaining to student health and the general welfare of the student body
- Participate in writing, editing and revising clinical protocols, guidelines and procedures
- Implement policies and manage relationships with other college departments
Provide healthcare for St. Olaf students by assessing, treating and referring students who visit Health Services
- Assess, diagnose and treat health conditions and structure a holistic health care plan to promote optimal health
- Independently prescribe and/or administer appropriate medication, corrective measures, and medical therapeutics within written protocols
- Consult with specialists and interdisciplinary clinicians as needed, providing referrals to consulting specialists and conducting follow-ups as necessary
- Initiate treatment of acute health care concerns and refer as needed
- Maintain proper clinical records and reports, and provide appropriate security and access to records within the guidelines of professional practice and governmental regulation
- Remain up-to-date on evidence-based practice of adolescent and young adult health care
- Promote wellness through health promotion and wellness counseling for a wide variety of health issues and concerns
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and supervise Health Services and Wellness Center staff
- Approve timecards
- Conduct performance evaluations
- Participate in quality improvement and peer reviews
General Office Responsibilities
- Attend meetings
- Be available to consult with faculty and staff on health-related issues
- Ensure appropriate occupational health and HIPAA-related trainings are provided to health services staff
Other Duties
- Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community
- Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
Term: Year-round
Shift: September – May, 40 hours per week, hours to be worked between Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; June-August, 20 hours per week, hours to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; occasional evening and weekend hours required for health-related initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- Current unrestricted RN and APRN licensure in the state of Minnesota or eligibility to apply
- Current DEA license or eligibility to apply
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS
- Current adult/gerontologic or family practice certification through ANCC or AANP
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record
Experience: 2+ years of experience in primary care; demonstrated knowledge and clinical skills to provide patient care as a nurse practitioner without direct supervision; experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited college or university
Experience: 5+ years of experience in adolescent and young adult healthcare; experience in adolescent and young adult health in a college or university environment
Prerequisites:
Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check, which may include criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of a DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical.
