Good News on our Recent Request!

Posted over 7 years ago by Brian Goodroad

Hello Minnesota APRNs,

Thank you so much to those of you who were able to respond to our call for action regarding HR 5985 as it was introduced to the House last week.  Many of you were able to write to urge your U.S. Representative to advance H.R. 5985, the Veterans Affairs (VA) Expiring Authorities Act without the provision that would have prevented the Dept. of VA from allowing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to practice to the full extent within the Veterans Health Administration. With the help of your swift action, the provision was removed before the House voted on the bill. The "clean" bill (without the provision) was passed on September 13.

Voices of APRNs can be heard.  Those voices can turn the tide. As a results of APRNs contactding efforts, nearly half (211) House offices were contacted in less than 48 hours.

Thanks again for helping with this effort.  Please continue to respond to calls for action from the Minnesota APRN Coalition and our individual role professional organizations. We will also keep you updated on any actions of the Veterans Health Administration on enacting the proposed rule changes to allow APRNS full-practice autbhority in the entire VA system!
