Veterans Affairs Full Practice Authority

Posted over 7 years ago by Renee Dahring

Dear members and APRNs,

There has been a lot of communication about the Veterans Affairs Full Practice Authority (FPA) rules implementation and some national legislative bills that are unfavorable to FPA. Some of these rules and bills may propose to carve out specific types of APRNs, specifically CRNAs. This is an intentional strategy on the part of groups opposed to FPA to divide us and weaken us. We cannot allow that to happen. Please keep a keen eye on communications from our national professional organizations for requests for action on these bills and rules.

The Minnesota APRN Coalition was established in 1998 and since that time we have stood by our mission of supporting all four roles for advanced practice: CNS, CNP, CNM and CRNA.

When one specialty moves their practice forward we all move our practice forward. Whether or not a carve out is true, we want all APRNs to know that our Minnesota APRN Coalition does NOT support any carve outs for any group.

We are stronger together than divided as shown by our passage of successful legislation for FPA in 2014. Please contact us with any questions - but most importantly, follow this issue and respond to your national organizations' requests for communications to our legislators when asked.

Thanks - we are stronger together!
Kathryn White, DNP, CRNA, APRN
Vice President
APRN Coalition
